Quarter Two
This quarter in english, we studied the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, a memoir from a Holocaust survivor. The book talks about his experiences and feelings during the second world war, explicitly discussing his internal fears and conflicts. The book also talks about one's purpose and calling, and how Elie Wiesel wrote his book so that people would not forget the Holocaust. My best work for this quarter was an in-class essay prompted from the quote "I have tried to fight those who would forget. Because if we forget, we are guilty, we are accomplices," which is an excerpt from his Nobel Peace Prize fro the memoir. In the essay, I was able to think of an outline within fifteen minutes of class, and spend one hour and forty five minutes writing the essay, which shows that I'm able to think quite quickly, which is why this is my best work. I did well on trying to analyse the depth of the text in a brief period of time, and communicating it through a time-pressured assignment. In the future, I should improve by digging even deeper into the text, being more careful with my grammar, and use more effective diction. Through this assignment, I was able to understand the key concept "connections" better. The assignment discussed the connections between the text and daily life. Instead of limiting the essay to the prompt, I chose to see why remembering is important in the livelihood of each person, which shows an understanding regarding the concept of connection and how most things are either obviously or subtly connected to each other.

Quarter One
This quarter in English the main focus was learning about the cultural facts attributing towards Human Right abuses around the world. My best work is my Research Paper regarding a culturally-based Human Right abuse, specifically discussing the treatment of disabled children throughout South African education. This sample was my best work because I put effort into the research and the writing, and it exemplifies what I've learned throughout the quarter, which is to analyze the occurrence of a statuesque to external or internal factors that apply situationally and has immediate connections. The assignment helped me grow in my analytical skills and in building relationships between points of interest that intercorrelate to reinstate solid fact. Something I'm proud of myself for doing with this research is to actually attempt to understand the different factors that contribute to the situation today, rather than relying on the statement of others. Something that I need to improve is my understanding on different things, however, because it often takes me quite some time to grasp different ideas an piece them together, even if they're blatantly staring me in the face. The key concept this quarter is "culture" which is highly relevant to the assignment. Through the assignment, I learned how the culture of a specific person does have affect on the directorship of a community's actions. Culture isn't simply your origins or your traditions; it's also mindset, habit, and the mode in which a society dominantly functions. Because of that, the key concept of "culture" plays an important role in this quarter. For this assignment I received a 7, 7, and 7, on criterions B, C, and D. |
This year, my goal in english is to improve my writing and reading skills, deepen my analysis on different subjects, and grow my vocabulary.
