Quarter One
This quarter, the focus was applying the principle of "balance" to create batik patterns. My best work was the final work, which was a batik design based on my chosen concept of balance, "inverted balance." Inverted balance means that the artwork is identical when mirrored, like a classic playing card. Through this project, I learned the application of balance, how to transfer designs using carbon paper, and exercising patience. With the first, I also learned that though the main two balances are formal and informal, there are also other varieties, like the inverted balance I chose to apply. Additionally, I learned that making completely identical designs that mirror each other was difficult, because humans aren't photocopy machines. However, that taught me of how to transfer designs using carbon paper, so that I could draw one side of the design and transfer that onto the final artwork using the method, which meant that both sides of the design would be identical. This was long, however, because the design I created was full of repetition, which taught me how to exercise my patience more. When filling the design with color, too, patience was needed, because there were minute details that would be unachievable otherwise. This sample was my best work because of these lessons, and because it showed that I'm abel to use different medias. What I did well was patience in the coloring of the spaces and choosing the colors for those, because the colors were accurate to what I had planned and achieved the desired effect of creating harmony throughout the artwork. However, in the future, I should improve my neatness so that the colors have a clearer distinction between them. The key concept applied in this quarter is change, because I learned about the transformation of something from an idea, into a concept, into a design, and into a final product. This study was essential for that, as change is observable only when executed, much more effectively if done personally.

My goal for Visual Art this year is to maintain my previous grades, which means getting a 7 in the report card. Besides that, I would also like to explore different mediums of art, so that my knowledge on mediums will improve and I'll have broader experience handling different medias.
