Report
Going to Jurnal Bogor is very benefitial for the student knowledge. In jurnal Bogor, students can learn to appreciate the jobs of reporters and journalist and what they have to do to do their job correctly without any error. Visiting the Jurnal Bogor headquarters will widen student’s perspectives and make them appreciate news more.
At first visit, a friendly and very enthusiastic man named Mohammad Ircham greeted us. Pak Ircham was very passionet man when it comes to his work and we could see that he enjoyed his job very much. The environment of the jurnal Bogor headquarters was also very important because students will be able to see the inside of a newspaper factory. So students not only learn about the process of journalism, they will also be able to view the process of |
newspapers from just a long roll of paper till it reaches our porch step door.
Pak Ircham was very generous of sharing his knowledge of journalism. He shared his experiences and what he thought was best to do at certain occasions. His knowledge was very general and detailed and we could tell that he had been a journalist for a long time and enjoyed his work very much (before Jurnal Bogor, Pak Ircham also worked for The Java Post). Pak Ircham taught us about the qualities that a journalist must have to succeed is their occupation. These qualities include looking at situation using other perspectives. He told us a story where his only witness was a little child and that to understand what the child was saying he had to switch his perspective to the perspectives of children. |
Pak Ircham also told us about how journalist can help. For example, if there is a crimescene and there is a victim, the journalist must not help the victim by carrying him/her away but must help by interviewing, so that the community may also know the victim’s side of the story.
Pak Ircham also shared to us what he type of question we had to asked and that no question is worthless. When interviewing a victim or suspect, we must ask anything that is on our minds. Where were they? What did they eat? When did they wake-up? Tiny details like this can have a shocking difference on an investigation or news report. Visiting Jurnal Bogor is a very enriching experience that should be enjoyed by all people who want to be journalist. |
Reflection
For me, visiting Jurnal Bogor was very satisfying for me. It taught me many things and I was able to meet a nice and passionate man named Pak Ircham.
From the first hello, I was able to tell that Pak Ircham was very passionate on his work. It was very enlightening to talk to him about journalism because he has been in the business for a very long time. He shared to us our experiences and his opinions. His experiences were very interesting and were a joy to listen to. He was a very good speaker and made everything he talked about interesting. His examples were also very enjoyable to listen to and made everyone enjoy their time there. His opinions were also very important because they would help us when we were going to be interviewing people for our reports when we get back from our majoy Bali fieldtrip. His speaking was very beneficial.
I should’ve taken the opportunity to ask more questions. My attitude during the fieldtrip was very quiet, I did not show any curiosity or become a balanced person. I should asked more questions rather then just listening. This showed that I was not curious to know more or ask questions that were in my mind. It also showed that I have trouble balancing listening and talking at very rare times.
