Reflection of the Year
Goal
Subject
- My goal for this year was to be more involved in the learning process, hopefully making everything I learned more personal. With that in mind, I achieved my goal, because in this quarter I learned how much of an impact personal involvement can bring to the quality of work. This year, there was a lot of freedom to the things we wanted to choose, so many of the themes or topics that I decided for the multiple projects and classes were things that I enjoyed and had interest in. Because of that, the research wasn't too bothersome as I enjoyed what I learned, and the final products are things that I can say I'm generally proud of. I also gained a lot of new knowledge from these things, knowledge that I don't regret learning.
- Another goal I had for this year is exploring a broader variety of projects and experiments. This year came with a lot of firsts; first spaghetti bridge, first math essay, first stop-motion video, first insightful documentary, first time making a video for a fake character, and a lot of exploration regarding video editing, first time actually cooking, first time modifying what I'm cooking. I'm happy with how many new skills I've acquired and/or developed this year, so I've achieved my goal.
- My final goal is to maintain my GPA so that it doesn't slide down. I don't think I've achieved this goal, but I don't know yet.
Subject
- The subject I think I've achieved the most from this year is Design Technology, because previously my cooking knowledge was limited to instant things. Now I can actually cook food - albeit not well - that tastes decent. Besides that, I also learned how to properly do IB-style Criteria, which will be a great help for next year when facing the ever-infamous Personal Project. Aside from that, I did generally well on the Criterions for Design Technology and achieved the goals I had set for Q4, so I know I'll receive a decent score for DT this year. (DT has also got me successfully more in love with food which I think is a benefit)
- I don't think there's a specific subject that I struggled with this year, rather there were a lot of projects belonging to different subjects that were challenging. However, I can hold testimony that the most difficult time of the year was the last two weeks of May, because it was the end of the year and there were a lot of projects and classes that needed to be wrapped up. Aside from the project and criterions, there were also tests that took up time to study as some of them involved reviewing material from the beginning of the year or newly learned material. However, I think I did quite well on preparing for the tests because I already had outlines of all the lessons so I didn't have to read through stacks of notes. However, next year, I should be wiser in managing time for the projects, so that they would be of more quality. This should be done through realistic planning and the avoiding procrastination by setting timely goals to motivate me forward.
